Evaluations

Outpatient or office-based evaluations are designed to meet the clinical specifications of monitoring organizations (e.g. Florida PRN), as well as the Department of Health. This standard is necessary to build powerful advocacy. Therefore, the standard components of office-based evaluations are an interview by the Medical Director, comprehensive psychological testing and lab work. The evaluation is done by appointment only and takes 2-4 hours to complete. The results are finalized after all testing results are compiled, usually within 5 working days.

Onsite or “In-house” evaluations are provided through a 3-7 day admission into the HealthCare Connection program. All of the components of the office-based evaluation are delivered, as well as QEEG (brain-mapping), more extensive psychological testing, psychiatric exam, behavioral observation and clinical group/treatment team evaluation. All evaluation results are strictly confidential and will only be released 3rd parties with your expressed written consent.

EEG Neurobiofeedback

EEG Neurobiofeedback  is a relatively new type of computer facilitated biofeedback that alters brain chemistry by manipulation of brain waves with the use of established training protocols. The training activates healthy neurons to produce healthy neurochemicals. The phenomenon is robust and has been well documented through the work of Barry Sterman, Ph.D., Professor of Neurobiology and Biobehavioral Psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine and more specifically to Chemical Dependency treatment with the work of Eugene G. Penisten, M.D. of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fort Lion, Colorado and the University of Southern Colorado at Pueblo. Training sessions are 30 minutes in length and cost $100.00 per session for outpatients but are included at no additional cost for our in-house treatment residents. Full treatment runs for 20 to 40 sessions and is effective in the control of ADD, ADHD, cravings and other deficits of mental focus. Neurobiofeedback is also an extremely effective tool for relapse prevention.

PIN Program,  PROFESSIONALS IN NEED

Doctors are not immune to the devastating financial effects of substance abuse impairment, including:

  • High cost of using and the lifestyle
  • Lost productivity at work
  • Eventual loss of income
  • Expensive legal consequences
  • Family and marital effects

Financial devastation can lead to a desperate narrowing of options which place the doctor at high risk for a continuous pattern of self-defeating behavior, clinical depression and even suicide. Access to expert and affordable treatment at the time of crisis is critical. However, often the type of treatment center the doctor needs is out of reach financially.

Through his calling to “give back”, Founder Dr. David Myers created the PIN Program, effectively providing access to Board approved treatment to doctors who are willing and motivated but lack the financial resources to obtain the required treatment.

PIN is free individualized treatment through HealthCare Connection and Dr. David Myers. Typical course includes ASAM Evaluation (H and P), MMPI, MCMI and a high intensity program for 1-6 weeks, followed by highly accountable and dignified therapeutic work program for a minimum of 6 months, urinalysis and communication ongoing with the monitoring Physicians Health Program. PIN residents reside in the professional treatment community with other doctors and participate in the medical professionals’ milieu. PIN docs are asked to pay nominal rent only, but only after they have income from their therapeutic employment. Daily AA/NA meetings and working with a sponsor is also required.

PIN Eligibility

  • Sincere desire for help
  • Financial need
  • Referral from Physician Health Program (PHP)
  • Minimum 6 month commitment
  • Money for incidentals (food, medication and toiletries)

The PIN program is not funded by any outside source. All funds necessary to operate the program are from Dr. Myers. Space is limited and slots are allocated on a preferential basis to PHP programs with whom we work with regularly.
